Connections, Collaborations, Conversations, and Creativy - September 11th, 2011

Judy Frankel & Diana

A Tribute to Judy Frankel

Judy was a good friend of mine. The first time I heard her sing it brought tears to my eyes and a warm feeling of familiarity in my heart. I went up to her after the concert and introduced myself. I felt instantly that we were sisters. We were friends forever. I bought her CDs and love to listen to her music while I paint. She was a very dear and loving soul and I miss her very much. Below are some articles about her and her wonderful Sephardic Ladino music.

Tres Hermanicas

Tres Hermanicas

The Sephardic Ladino song, "Las Tres Hermanicas" from 14th century Spain, sung by Judy Frankel inspired me. The three women potrayed are Isabel Sandoval (poet), me (artist), and Judy Frankel (singer). In the painting, we are together in a medieval Spanish setting with a castle in the background, doing what we love most; singing, writing, painting and being together.
