"I was fascinated with an old photograph, taken in 1932, of a wedding in the small mountain village of Cordova, New Mexico. I thought of the shtetl life of Jews in Eastern Europe and how there was a similar feeling and way of life to these Spanish Catholic people in the photo. I sort of mixed the two cultures and set them in New Mexico. The little girl in pink is my granddaughter, Amalia."
